Yesterday, while I was importing new photos into Lightroom, I got a dreaded message saying that I did not have enough hard drive space to complete my import. I’ve been sort of lazy with my backup lately. This is bad especially because most of my photos are only on one location at this moment. I’ve been intending on backing up my photos for almost two months now so I took the message as a sign. I have a NAS drive on my network right now, but that’s almost full. I figured I needed to step up my backup system to the next level because I know hard drives will fail and I don’t want to lose my data. I really don’t want to lose my photos. It was time to get a Drobo.

I just created an account on FriendFeed. It’s a site that lets you share what you’re up to in one site and in an organized manner. Basically, FriendFeed takes all the feeds from your various social networking site like twitter, Flickr, or your blog, and share it in a centralized location. Right now it supports 33 different services. It’s nothing revolutionary, but it’s neat to see all your feeds in one place. If you sign up for an account, you can subscribe to other peoples FriendFeed.

I am not sure how long FoodFeed has been around, but it’s a neat idea. It’s basically a site that takes specific twitter posts about what you’re eating and creates a page accessible by anyone with just those tweets. The way it works is simple. First you need to have a twitter account. Next, you add the user “having” as a friend. After that, you basically are good to go. The next time you’re eating something, you send a message to FoodFeed via @having or d having. That post will be added to your FoodFeed which you can access at http://javajunky.foodfeed.us/ (substitute javajunky with your twitter username). Your friends or strangers can even subscribe to a rss feed of your FoodFeed. Ultimately, this is yet another way to get sucked into twitter.

There’s been way too many twitter update posts in a row. I have obviously been lacking in the blogging aspect of my life. I have been keeping up with my Flickr 365 project. There was one day when I was without my Canon Rebel XT. I had to resort to my Razr. Thankfully, that was only for one day. If any of you photographers (of any level) have not done a 365 project, you definitely should. It really forces you to think more about photography and also get you more comfortable with the idea of shooting everyday. I thought I was going to run out of ideas in a week and end up with over 300 plus myspace-esque pics. I think I may have only a few of those kind.
I have not abandoned my blog and I will be more active. This is why the twitter updates help me. I have a nice visual marker of how long I haven’t been writing. There’s a lot of things I want to write about and I will try to get to them tonight. Thank you to the readers who are still checking Wasted Continuum. And thank you Google Analytics for letting me know I still have readers! Remember, you can always add my rss feed (http://www.wastedcontinuum.com/feed/) to your favorite rss reader. I have used Sage (a Firefox add-on), FeedDemon (standalone application, maybe Windows only) and Google Reader (web-based reader). Currently, I’m using Google Reader. It’s easy to use and I’m really liking the features.

I’m all packed and ready to head out to San Francisco to ring in the new year with my best friend. As I have mentioned before, I won’t be posting anything until I get back. In fact, I don’t think I’m going to bring my laptop. It’s too bulky. If only I had an ultra-mobile laptop. I will still be twittering with my phone and maybe on my friend’s computer. My twitter daily summary posts will still show up automatically.
I’m traveling light this time. I’ll have my tiny 4 gig Nano with me. I just bought a new book to read. It’s Bone in the Throat by Anthony Bourdain. Can’t wait to read it. I already started the prologue and it’s got me sucked in. Since I’m not bringing my laptop, that means I won’t upload any photos either until I get back.
So, happy new year all!

Right when I was going to update my twitter, it goes down. I think they said that they’d be down until tomorrow. Well, I guess I’ll have to do something else instead of fueling my twitter addiction.
