JPG Magazine is shutting down on Monday, January 5, 2009. They are my favorite photography magazine. JPG was a user based magazine where people submitted photos and were voted on by JPG users. There were amazing photos in every issue and I’m really sad that they’ll be going away. Right now you can download the back issues along with other stuff in PDF format. They will continue their Flickr Group. You can read the official post about it here. I’ll miss you a lot JPG!

YAY! I’m done!
Yes I’m technically finished with my 365 Flickr project, but since this is a leap year, I’m doing one bonus photo tomorrow. But I’m glad I made it through.
I have learned a ton about photography. Just take a look at my first photo. I can’t even look at it. LOL. I’m glad I did it and I think I’m going to do it again. For any of you reading this and are looking to improve your photography or even just learning more about your own camera, you should do one too. Don’t get caught up in trying to have an amazing idea every single day. That isn’t the point. The object of doing it is to get in the habit of shooting every day.

I just finished my second Black and White Week project. I’m happy with the way it turned out. I learned a lot more on how much effect just a single source of light enhances a monochromatic shot. I definitely got more contrast. My first B&W Week project was not complete because I was interrupted by the Art Crawl in the middle of it. I encourage all of you photographers out there to try doing this or a similar project. I guarantee you’ll learn a lot from it.

Canon has finally announced the successor to their ever popular EOS 5D with the EOS 5D Mark II. The major things to know about it are:
- 21.1 megapixel full-frame sensor
- New DIGIC 4 image processor
- Live View
- EOS Integrated Cleaning System
- ISO range 100-6400
- Shoots HD (1920×1080) video with HDMI out
The last little bullet is the interesting one. Yes, all the other features rock, but they were expected. The video capture ability caught me off guard. I did not expect Canon to implement that in time. Nikon just released their D90 which shoots 1280×720. It is great to see Canon not only catch up but release something with better stats. But the whole concept of being able to shoot video with a DSLR is intriguing. Imagine shooting a short film with a 50mm 1.4. With that lens, you would be able to shoot in low light without any trouble. How about shooting video with a 10mm wide angle lens or even a tilt-shift lens.
The 5D Mark II will set you back $2699 for the body only. I am debating if I should start saving up for one now and purchase it next summer. It is so tempting.

Today I finally got a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2. I have been a fan of Lightroom since the original beta. It has completely changed my digital photography workflow. Not only did it speed up my process, but it also helped me organize my whole operation. Lightroom covers everything from importing my photos all the way to exporting for web or print. It has also kept me from launching Photoshop on more than 99% of my photos. That was Lightroom 1.0. Lightroom 2 is levels above its predecessor. These are some of the new features that were not in the first version:

I’m flying out to Houston Friday morning. It will be my first time there. I am visiting my friend, Linh. Hopefully, I’ll be eating like crazy. I’ll have limited or no internet access down there. As always, I will be twittering throughout my trip. If you want to see what I’m up to, follow my twitter. I’m JavaJunky on there too. I will be back in Minnesota on Tuesday night. Expect photos.
