Les Paul passed away today. I can’t even begin to state how important he was to the history of the electric guitar. Not only was he the one who made the solid-body guitar the way we know it today.
Besides being an inventor and innovator of the guitar world, he also invented the Gibson Les Paul line of guitars which happens to be my favorite kind of guitars. This guitar I’m holding is Josie. My first guitar was a cheap, old guitar I bought off my cousin. Josie was my second guitar, the one that I really wanted and saved up for. Took me forever to come up with the money for it but I still remember the very first day I got it and the moment that I plugged it into my amp. I was in love. Not all guitars are made the same. I love all my guitars, but Les Paul guitars are little more special to me.
Rest in peace, Les Paul and then rock on wherever you are.

For those of you who have been following my Flickr photostream this week may have noticed the lack of interesting photos. This week has been crazy and I did not have much time or even the energy to take any decent photos. I had a couple hours today to kill so I really wanted to use it to go on a photowalk. Since the Taste of Minnesota was this weekend, I thought that would be the best venue for it.

Weezer released their video for their first single, Pork and Beans. It’s off their upcoming self-titled album, soon to be referred to as the Red album. It will be released on June 3rd, 2008. I am a huge fan of Weezer and will be running out to buy it on that day. Amazon has the Pork and Beans single for sale now. I can’t wait to listen to the whole album.

I haven’t been to a concert in a little while. I guess I don’t go to as many concerts as I used to. Maybe this summer, I’ll start going to smaller shows. I think I miss it. Tomorrow night, I’ll be watching the Black Keys perform at First Avenue. It’s going to be a killer show, I’m sure. The band consists of Dan Auerbach (on vocals and guitar) and Patrick Carney (on drums). Two guys. Two instruments. That’s it. They have a really raw, rock sound. They just released a new album, Attack and Release. I heard a little bit of it. It definitely sounds different than their last album, Magic Potion. Jay Reatard will be opening for them. I haven’t heard of him. I checked out his MySpace profile. Apparently he’s punk. It’s not bad. I think I’d like to see how he is live.

I finally had a little time today to connect my guitar to my new MacBook and mess with GarageBand. I realized something today. I’ve completely lost my rhythm. I couldn’t hold a steady beat if my life depended on it. I was much better before when I used to jam with other people. I just kind of suck now. I need to spend less time playing the guitar and more time practicing the guitar. GarageBand is a solid program. It doesn’t have a massive amount of features, but I was able to just connect my PodXT to it without any issues. I just need to get used to the interface a little. I’m actually more used to using Soundtrack Pro. I think GarageBand will do what I want for now which is to do some multi-track recording quickly and easily.
