Crumpler Love

I just got my Crumpler delivered to me today. I bought the Part and Parcel which is a roomy bag for 15″ laptops. I wanted a laptop bag to keep my MacBook Pro protected when I take it out and about. I’m a big fan of Crumpler after purchasing the Six Million Dollar Home for my camera. I haven’t had a lot of time to play with my case yet. Crumpler owners would understand that. There are many well thought out compartments in every Crumpler bag. They put a lot of work into designing it with the customer in mind. I bought it off Amazon for $160. I think it’s the same price almost anywhere unless you have a discount coupon. The Part and Parcel comes in a variety of colors. I got the Black/Gun Metal one.I will have a full review of it soon, hopefully tomorrow. I will also put some photos up on my Flickr with it in action.

Guitar, Meet MacBook

Guitar, Meet MacBook I finally had a little time today to connect my guitar to my new MacBook and mess with GarageBand. I realized something today. I’ve completely lost my rhythm. I couldn’t hold a steady beat if my life depended on it. I was much better before when I used to jam with other people. I just kind of suck now. I need to spend less time playing the guitar and more time practicing the guitar. GarageBand is a solid program. It doesn’t have a massive amount of features, but I was able to just connect my PodXT to it without any issues. I just need to get used to the interface a little. I’m actually more used to using Soundtrack Pro. I think GarageBand will do what I want for now which is to do some multi-track recording quickly and easily.

Home I got my camera back today from my aunt. Perfect timing, because I got my MacBook Pro today too. I was feeling very low tech for a good week. It’s all good now. I can sleep soundly tonight. I took a lot of photos of my new laptop, but I haven’t processed them yet. I’ll have them up tomorrow.

The MacBook Has Arrived

It's HereYes. Finally, the day has come. I’ve been without a laptop for one week and it’s been awkward. I don’t like the idea of being planted in one place for computing. Feels too much like I’m working. I’m writing with it right now. I’m actually writing it in the dark. The screen dims and the keyboard lights up automatically. It’s quite awesome. I think this will do wonders for my writing. I spent most of the evening installing my favorite Mac apps. This included Firefox, Spaz, Adium, HandBrake, and iStat Menus. I still have more I need to install. I installed some essential add-ons to Firefox like Better Flickr and Better Gmail.

I’m really liking Leopard so far. The multi-touch track pad is incredible. There are so many little things in Leopard that I’m really enjoying and I will start them as soon as I go to work tomorrow and use the Mac Pro with Tiger on it. I think I’m going to use Mail on here instead of Thunderbird. I’m used to Thunderbird, but I think it’ll be more efficient to use Mail. I’m still getting used to the fact that I have a MacBook Pro right now, so I’ll talk more about it later.

Ordered a MacBook Pro

MacBook ProYesterday, I declared to Twitter that if Apple released a new MacBook Pro, I would run out and buy one. Well, today, Apple released updated versions of both the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. The new MacBook Pros are now loaded with the new Intel Core 2 Duo Peryn chips, backlit LED displays, multi-touch track pad (a la MacBook Air) and a few other things. You can go visit Apple’s site to see all the updates. Since the local store doesn’t have the 15″ MBP with the 200GB 7200rpm hard drive, I had to order it online. This is the configuration I ordered:

  • 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy WS
  • 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM – 2x1GB
  • 200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
  • SuperDrive 8x DL
  • Apple Remote
  • BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS

I should be getting it sometime next week. Now comes the hardest part, waiting.

Long Day

UnwellIt’s been a long day and I’m not feeling well. I woke up with a sore throat this morning. Actually the whole week has been hectic. Projects are piling up at work. When I get off work, I have Chinese New Year stuff to do. On top of that, I’ve been trying to repair my dying laptop. I still think there’s a hardware issue and it may go soon. That would really suck cause I just spent about $900 on getting new tires for my car. I can’t afford to replace my laptop right now. It’s been bugging me a lot. It’s hard on a geek to know that his laptop is dying and there’s nothing I can do about it. The fun part is that I do get to research new laptop options now. It definitely is not in my budget right now to get one.

I went to check out the MacBook Air today for the first time. It is gorgeous. It is hands-down the most stylish laptop out on the market right now. Pair it up with a Gelaskins and you’ll have every head turning when you’re sitting in a cafe with it. I have to decide if it’s too restricted with the single USB port and 80GB hard drive. The screen is beautiful and the multi-touch track pad works really well. It’s very tempting. However, the MacBook Pro has been heavily rumored to be updated in a few weeks. I think that will probably be a better time for me to make a purchase anyway.

I also checked out the new iPod Touch with the 32GB hard drive. It’s pretty much the exact same as the old ones except with more capacity. I just wanted to check out the new apps that they added to all the iPod Touches after MacWorld. I think I’ll pull the trigger on that one as soon as they drop the price. I can work with 32GB. 16GB is just unacceptable.
