16 Random Facts About Me

Published by JavaJunky under Flickr, Personal

16 WhateversI was tagged by deepsha on Flickr to do 16 Things. These are mine and they’re random. You can click here or on the photo to view it in Flickr.

  1. I lived in Alaska for a year when I was four. It was the first place I lived in the US when moving here from Hong Kong.
  2. I’ve read Crime and Punishment and loved it.
  3. I’m very sentimental. I keep almost anything with meaning.
  4. I used to play with fire as a kid. Not small fires either.
  5. I’ve never broken a bone though I’ve done some crazy things.
  6. I live to learn. I analyze and deconstruct everything around me.
  7. I had my first crush in kindergarten to a girl named Lisa. Lasted only 10 minutes after my classmate, Justin, swooped in and proposed to her in front of me. Heart was broken.
  8. I’m extremely good at reading people in person. My best friend can vouch for this. She used to introduce me to guys and I’d be able to tell her exactly what the guy will turn out to be like.
  9. I used to be able to dunk a basketball on at 9 foot rim, but not a 10 foot regulation rim.
  10. I have asthma and have been admitted to the emergency room after an attack during my senior year of highschool. I haven’t used an inhaler in more than three years.
  11. I never ran more than a mile since highschool until September of 2007 mostly because of my asthma. Two months later, I ran in a 5K race on Thanksgiving.
  12. I graduated highschool when I just turned 17. I was half a year younger than the 2nd youngest person in my class.
  13. I love the Foo Fighters. I think they’ are hands down way better than Nirvana. Not more influential, but better. And, to be fair, I am a fan of Nirvana too.
  14. I’ve rode on an elephant before in Thailand when I was a child.
  15. I’m a seriously hopeless romantic. I believe in true love and giving heart completely to just one person. This may also be why I’ve been so heartbroken before.
  16. I’m a little commitment phobic, but I’m an extremely loyal person. It’s how I was brought up. Loyalty is one of the most important thing in Chinese culture – loyalty to your family, loyalty to your friends, and of course, loyalty to your lover. Betraying that is possibly one of the most shameful thing you can do in our culture. It can definitely be a flaw when the other does not deserve your loyalty

Project 365: 2008 Complete

Published by JavaJunky under Personal, Photography

One

YAY! I’m done!

Yes I’m technically finished with my 365 Flickr project, but since this is a leap year, I’m doing one bonus photo tomorrow. But I’m glad I made it through.

I have learned a ton about photography. Just take a look at my first photo. I can’t even look at it. LOL. I’m glad I did it and I think I’m going to do it again. For any of you reading this and are looking to improve your photography or even just learning more about your own camera, you should do one too. Don’t get caught up in trying to have an amazing idea every single day. That isn’t the point. The object of doing it is to get in the habit of shooting every day.

I’ve Been Frickin’ Memed

Published by JavaJunky under Blog, Flickr

Simple PleasuresFrick on a stick, I’ve been memed by Breanne (@minxsy on twitter)! So now I have to blog about the 6th photo from the 6th page of my Flickr. This is a good one. It’s one of my 365 photos and was also part of my Black and White Week project. This was actually a very significant day for me personally, but I really can’t get into that. Basically, my day was crappy, but someone special made me feel better at the end of the night.

Ok, so I guess I should thank Breanne for making me look back on this wonderful day. Wow. Behold the power of meme. It may be a force of good. You should follow @minxsy. She is awesome.

Time to choose my victims. Hopefully, they’ll play along because I’m not taking any responsibility for what may happen if they don’t. I guess I’ll choose people I know that might actually be up for it. I’m choosing Daynah (@daynah) and Maddy (@fairybabe). Good luck. If anyone else wants to jump in, feel free. Leave your blog post in my comments in you do.

Black and White Week Project II Complete

Published by JavaJunky under Flickr, Photography

Day 7I just finished my second Black and White Week project. I’m happy with the way it turned out. I learned a lot more on how much effect just a single source of light enhances a monochromatic shot. I definitely got more contrast. My first B&W Week project was not complete because I was interrupted by the Art Crawl in the middle of it. I encourage all of you photographers out there to try doing this or a similar project. I guarantee you’ll learn a lot from it.

Hug Your MacBooks

Published by JavaJunky under Apple, Hardware, Tech

I'll Still Love You Tomorrow I know you all are excited. I am too. Today, Steve Jobs will take the stage at the Apple event and reveal the shiny, new MacBook line. I love Apple, but part of their marketing strategy is exactly what the car industry does. Every year they come out with a cooler looking model. Even though your recently purchased MacBook or iPod is still perfectly fine, it starts to look outdated compared to the new model.

But people, please don’t push aside your current MacBooks and gawk at the new kid in town. Your MacBook has been there for you. Every time you wanted to do some work at a coffeeshop, your MacBook was there. Every time your flight is delayed and you don’t want crack open one of those book things, your MacBook was there. Every time you go to a family function and need to pretend you have important work to avoid talking to your drunk uncle, your MacBook was there.

So please people, when the Jobs is up there showing off the new MacBooks with his cool looking slides and “BOOMS”, I want you to remember the loving laptop that’s been there for you all those time.

I’ve ranted enough. Go now and give your MacBook a hug. Better yet, take a photo of it and post it on Flickr. You can post a link of it on my photo and we’ll have a nice group MacBook hug.

Of course, if you don’t have a MacBook of any kind, you should probably order one of the new ones. I bet you they’ll look super cool and I know that you’ll love it like I love my MacBook Pro.
