I haven’t been to a concert in a little while. I guess I don’t go to as many concerts as I used to. Maybe this summer, I’ll start going to smaller shows. I think I miss it. Tomorrow night, I’ll be watching the Black Keys perform at First Avenue. It’s going to be a killer show, I’m sure. The band consists of Dan Auerbach (on vocals and guitar) and Patrick Carney (on drums). Two guys. Two instruments. That’s it. They have a really raw, rock sound. They just released a new album, Attack and Release. I heard a little bit of it. It definitely sounds different than their last album, Magic Potion. Jay Reatard will be opening for them. I haven’t heard of him. I checked out his MySpace profile. Apparently he’s punk. It’s not bad. I think I’d like to see how he is live.

While I was at Target getting a cheap phone for backup, I checked the music aisle to see if they had Rivers’ new release. As luck would have it, they had one copy of Alone: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo. It’s a collection of his recordings from 92-07. I’ve heard a few of these tracks before. “Blast Off!” and “Longtime Sunshine” are two of my favorites songs written by Rivers. Any fan of Weezer should go get this album. And I’m not talking about buying it off iTunes. I’m saying you should go buy the CD. The jacket contains short writings by Rivers that tells the background and origin of each song.

Holy moly. How did she get past me? I had Kimmel on as I’m trying to go to sleep. So Sara was the musical guest. She performed her single, Love Song. All I can say is that she has an amazing smooth voice. She also plays the piano. She’s like a Fiona Apple just happy. Not to say that Fiona sounds depressing. I love her, but she is on the lyrically heavy side. I’m going to check out her album, Little Voice How cool is that album name? And she’s even sporting an old school Airline radio on her cover art.

This may have been one of my weirder combination purchases in recent memory. I stopped by Target before coming home tonight to pickup Ratatouille on DVD. After that, I roamed around the music section to see what was out. That’s when I saw the new Jay Z album, American Gangster, was on sale. I had to get it. I’ve listened to the first seven tracks so far and I’ve got to say I’m liking it better than Kingdom Come right now. That’s now my final opinion or anything, but those tracks I heard so far sounds more like the Black Album, my favorite Jay Z album by far. I especially like Roc Boys (And The Winner Is)…. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of it.

How did this get by me? I must be losing it. Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, the Foo Fighter’s 7th album, was released last Tuesday and I did not even know about it. I’m watching The Pretender video right now. Sounds a little heavier than they have been lately. I like it. Pretty slick video. Dave Grohl is sporting his Gibson Firebird.
Note to self: Go buy the album.
