Yesterday, while I was importing new photos into Lightroom, I got a dreaded message saying that I did not have enough hard drive space to complete my import. I’ve been sort of lazy with my backup lately. This is bad especially because most of my photos are only on one location at this moment. I’ve been intending on backing up my photos for almost two months now so I took the message as a sign. I have a NAS drive on my network right now, but that’s almost full. I figured I needed to step up my backup system to the next level because I know hard drives will fail and I don’t want to lose my data. I really don’t want to lose my photos. It was time to get a Drobo.

Oh, Google, you are full of hilarity! It’s barely April 1st and you’re already trying to get us. Google, partnering with Virgin, is now accepting applications to be sent on the adventure of many lifetimes with their project Virgle. I want in. I do kind of wish it were true for one main reason, an open source planet. That’s right everything will be shared. Awesome.

Yesterday, I declared to Twitter that if Apple released a new MacBook Pro, I would run out and buy one. Well, today, Apple released updated versions of both the MacBook and MacBook Pro lines. The new MacBook Pros are now loaded with the new Intel Core 2 Duo Peryn chips, backlit LED displays, multi-touch track pad (a la MacBook Air) and a few other things. You can go visit Apple’s site to see all the updates. Since the local store doesn’t have the 15″ MBP with the 200GB 7200rpm hard drive, I had to order it online. This is the configuration I ordered:
- 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
- MacBook Pro 15-inch Glossy WS
- 2GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM - 2×1GB
- 200GB Serial ATA @ 7200 rpm
- SuperDrive 8x DL
- Apple Remote
- BkLit Keyboard/Mac OS
I should be getting it sometime next week. Now comes the hardest part, waiting.

It’s been a well known fact that HD DVD has been on it’s way out since right before CES. Now, Gamerscore Blog has stated that Microsoft will no longer producing their HD DVD player for the 360. This coming after the major movie studios abandoned them. Then retailers like Best Buy, Walmart and NetFlix dropped them. Then, Toshiba, the company associated with HD DVD, announced that they’re discontinuing them. Everyone can safely buy a Blu-ray player now. Right now, the price is too high for me to get one. Currently the best deal for a player is still the PS3. The 20GB version is going for $418 right now. I’m definitely waiting until players are at least under $200. Shouldn’t be too long now.

I’ve had major laptop issues over the weekend. Basically, my laptop has been turning off randomly and having issues booting up. I’ve been backing up my data most of last week. Today I was finally able to reinstall XP back onto it. It’s running fine so far. I have already partitioned my drive this time so that I can just re-image it next time instead of re-installing everything.
Moral of the story: backup your data. I’ve said this before. Data is never safe if it exists in one place.

Apple has release a new color for their iPod Nano lineup. I’m guessing they’re pushing these out so that could be gifts for Valentine’s Day. They are available now.
