I finally got my bike today. I have been waiting about two weeks for it. I got a Giant XTC 29er 2. It was supposed to be a three day wait, but with the timing, the 2012 models were coming in and I got that instead of the previous model. I have to say, after only riding it for maybe twenty minutes, I love it. The 29 inch wheels make a significant difference when riding on rough terrain. It rolls over it like nothing. I went pretty easy on it tonight since I have not ridden in a few years. My last mountain bike was stolen from my garage. I think I will ride it a few times this week to get used to the gearing and then take it out onto some trails this weekend. After I get some solid miles on this ride, I may invest in a GoPro camera and shoot some trail rides. In the meantime, I uploaded a bunch of photos of it on my Flickr.

Happy new year! There goes another one. Another artificial milestone for us to reevaluate our lives. For me, there has been a lot of ups and a lot of downs. Sadly, if I were to count them up, I think the downs outweigh the ups. However, I’m not going to dwell on this since I have learned over the years, life sucks sometimes. That’s just how it is. But on the other hand, life is amazing sometimes and I think we tend to forget that when things are rough. I never do. This year, I’m only making one resolution, be better. That’s it. I made a lot of mistakes last year and I know I’ll make a lot more. But along with last year’s mistakes came a lot of regret and those are a lot harder to shake off and get over. I need to work on that. All other things are not as important. I just need to focus on being better in 2011. I know it’s a weird resolution because it’s extremely vague, but I know all the things I’ve done wrong and the best way to describe what I need to do to gain from those mistakes is to be better. There are no specifics and those of you in the same position will probably get what I’m saying. Whatever the case may be, I hope you all keep your resolutions and I hope your year is full of good food, good drinks and good people to enjoy it with.

Another Thanksgiving dinner has passed. I’m stuffed beyond belief. I cooked for my family as usual. If you have not attempted to cook a large dinner before, I have a few tips for you. These don’t have to be applied to just big holiday dinners. First things first, figure out your menu early. When you’re deciding on your menu, you have to take into account several key factors: total cooking time, equipment restrictions and serving sizes. Continue Reading »

Tonight I saw Anthony Bourdain at one of his speakings. I have not seen him since 2007 at Solera. If you have not seen any of his speakings, let me paint you a picture of the first few minutes of him walking onto the stage. The theater is darkened and the stage is lit. His name is announced and he walks out with a bottle of Summit beer in one hand. Continue Reading »

Happy new year everyone! A new year is upon us and I know we all like to make lists about what we would like to accomplish. I am not big on resolutions. I tend to just make goals throughout the year. But I am feeling like it now. I have to admit right now that I do not have anything in mind right now and I am making them up as I go. As some of you may know, I like to keep my resolutions organic. They may be amended at any time. Continue Reading »

Today is an important day for Liz and me. It’s been exactly one year since the first time I tweeted Liz on twitter. I was following her for maybe a few days after reading her bio. I was very much taken by just that. I waited for the right moment to talk to her. One day, Aug 21st of last year to be precise, she tweeted a line from the song Handlebars by the Flobots. I tweeted this to her trying to be a little snarky, but not too much. I remember she replied to me thinking I was being literal when I was actually quoting another line from the song. Turns out she didn’t really know the song that well. I felt like a total dork and I thought I blew any shot of just being friends with her. Luckily, more so for me, we had incredible chemistry and my stumbling did not get in the way of it.
