Green Cups
While I was on my photowalk today, I stopped into Cafe Latte for an iced dirty chai. Yes, it was delicious. As I was walking back to my car, I started reading the text on the cup. I was surprised to read that it was environmentally friendly. The plastic cup is made by a company called Fabri-Kal. The Greenware cups are manufactured from NatureWorks® biopolymer, a resin currently derived entirely from plants. During composting, the cup will begin to break down at 150º F and 90% humidity. In approximately 50 days within those conditions, the cups will be completely gone.
I hope all the major chains like Starbucks will start using this or something similar. They may already. I haven’t really notice, but I definitely will look next time. Big props to Cafe Latte for using it.
