Bad Brain: A Short Film

I had a horrible headache today. I think it was a stress headache. It was so consuming that I decided to make a short movie about it.

Shot with my 5D Mark II with a 50mm 1.4 in low light.

This is my second produced video. I made “Secret Love” in the beginning of February. Since then, I have had a lot more time with the 5D and have gotten more used to it. Though I do know more now, I didn’t really spend a lot of time setting up this shoot. This was mainly due to the fact that I actually had a major headache and just wanted to do it quickly. I did it in three takes. The only factor that I really cared about for this video was composition.

There are a few things I would have done differently if I were to redo this video. First, I would have setup the lighting better so that it was such low lighting. That caused a lot of noise. Second, I would of put more thought in the action. Last, I would have used my real tripod. I used my Joby GorillaPod. It was sitting on the table and there was a little shake when I was moving around. These are all minor. I am happy with the way it turned out. I am definitely still learning.

I also have more to learn with iMovie ’08. I’m still figuring out what video editing software I should use. At work, I use After Effects and Final Cut Studio Pro. I don’t really need that setup at home, but I feel that iMovie ’08 is just so stripped down compared to what I’m used to that it really slows down my process. I may look into iMovie ’09. That seems to have a lot more functionality to it. Another option would be Final Cut Express. That may be a lot more like what I’m used to editing with. I guess I have research to do.

I love the lighting! And your composition is great. You have a good eye. And yeah… that’s pretty much how I felt yesterday too. I hope you’re feeling better today! Keep up with the short movies! You’re good at them! ;)

Thanks, Ellen. It’s good to hear compliments from a fellow photographer. I’m glad you liked it. I will definitely make more as they pop in my head. :)
