TV: Scrubs Season 6 on DVD

Published by JavaJunky under TV

Scrubs Season 6 DVDSeason six of my favorite show, Scrubs, was just release on DVD yesterday. I’m already four episodes in. I definitely need to get to episode six, aka My Musical, tonight. It’s one of the best episodes of the season. I hope this doesn’t get in the way of my novel. Who am I kidding? I’ll be done watching the whole season in a few days.

Photography: Square It Off

Published by JavaJunky under Photography

Digital Photography School has a great post on square cropping your photos. It reminds me that I need to break out of the mold more often. I am giving myself an assignment of nine new square photos by this Sunday. I will post my results up on Flickr.

Writing: NaNoWriMo

Published by JavaJunky under Writing

NaNoWriMo LogoLifehacker just featured an posting on NaNoWriMo. “What the heck is a NaNoWriMo?”, you say. Well, November is National Novel Writing Month and tomorrow is your chance to turn the idea you had kicking around in your head into a best-selling novel.

National Novel Writing Month is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing. Participants begin writing November 1. The goal is to write a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by midnight, November 30.

What if you’re not a writer? Doesn’t matter. The point of NaNoWriMo is not about quality. The point is to force yourself to write. For me, I think I’m going to do just to see how far I can go. I’ve never attempted a novel before but this a perfect forum for it.

I just downloaded Dark Room for my laptop and will be creating a NaNoWriMo account right after I post this. Stop reading and go write. Actually, don’t cheat. Start writing tomorrow. Make sure you check out the rules of the contest. They are fairly simple.

Radio: Act V

Published by JavaJunky under Radio

This American Life Logo I never hide the fact that This American Life is one of my favorite radio shows. If you ignore the fact that some of my favorite people (David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell) as guests at times, it is still one of the best produced, hilarious, topical, intriguing, and captivating show around.

Recently, I’ve been behind a few episodes. Today, I just listened to the episode, Act V, originally aired in 2002, reaired on October 12, 2007. This was a great episode that I think everyone should try to listen to. Reporter and TAL contributor Jack Hitt follows a group of inmates who stage a performance of the fifth act of Hamlet.

It was amazing to see how powerful Shakespeare’s writing is. What was more interesting was listening to how these inmates were actually moved by the play and also how much the audiences are moved by their performance.

Running: 5.53 Miles at Night

Published by JavaJunky under Running

I ran 7 miles yesterday. Today, I ran 5.53 miles at a much better pace. It felt really good to run longer distances. My left leg held up without a problem. It was a little stiff yesterday at the end of the run, but I stretched out thoroughly. I will definitely rock the Turkey Day 5K. After my run, I had a nice bowl of bun bo hue with a “fresh” young coconut to drink. If that wasn’t enough, I went home and did free weights while watching the 2004 Crossroads Festival on DVD.

Running: 6 Miles in the Wind

Published by JavaJunky under Running

I haven’t ran in over a week since I’ve been getting off work late everyday. For some unknown reason, I thought it would be a good idea to run 6 miles instead of my usual 5K. My lungs were great. No issues there at all. On the bad, my left leg tightened up. I ended up running 4 miles, then stretching for a minute and then running another 2 miles. My leg is still hurting, but I’ve been stretching it every couple of hours. Hopefully, I can run again Tuesday if I get off at a decent time. Even with the leg problem, I’m happy with my performance today. I’m going to rock that Turkey Day 5K.
